Admission Requirements

1. Age: 16 years or older.

2. Completed ELI application form. See http://www.outreach.utk.edu/eli

3. U.S. $50 application fee. Please make check or money order payable to ELI.

4. Financial evidence (bank statement or other financial document from student, family member, or sponsor showing student has funds to pay for study at ELI).

Your financial evidence should show you have the following amounts available for all expenses: $2,670 for 4 weeks; $4,830 for 8 weeks; $9,410 for 16 weeks; $18,820 for one academic year).

5. Mail, fax, or e-mail the ELI application form, $50, and financial evidence to ELI. Plan to submit the application at least 6 weeks before the start of an ELI session.

Students who submit all necessary application materials will receive an I-20 (certificate of eligibility for study). The I-20 may be used at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate to apply for a student visa.

Students who are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents do not need to supply financial evidence. U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents may enroll as part-time students. Contact ELI for information about costs and schedules.

If you wish to study for University of Tennessee degree programs, contact the University’s admissions office.

Admission to ELI is not equivalent to admission to a University of Tennessee degree program.

If you want to study at the University of Tennessee after completing ELI, you should check on the ELI application that you want a University of Tennessee LETTER OF ADMISSABILITY. You must include official/certified transcripts of your previous study with your ELI application.
